For almost 15 years, the “Po To Jestem” Association has been conducting dogotherapeutic classes,
perfecting their original method of work.

ABOUT OUR METHOD
Exercises with dogs require the acquisition of specific competences – the ability to focus and maintain attention, remember the order of commands and reinforcements, as well as understand the basics of human-dog communication and dog-to-human communication.
Based on years of experience in working with dogs and people with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities, we noticed that the skills acquired during our exercises translate into an improvement in the functioning of participants in the field of communication with people. So we decided to develop a set of exercises divided into modules, creating a coherent program, which is currently in the testing and research phase. We believe that thanks to the cooperation with the Royal Canin Foundation, the University of Szczecin and the West Pomeranian University of Technology, we will soon be able to train new therapists and share our achievements with other institutions around the world.

STEP 3: SHAPING BEHAVIOR
Formation of more complex skills in the dog and complex commands. We practice the ability to keep the participant’s attention on the task and on the object (in this case on the dog :))

STEP 4: BOND BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT
Both the dog and the participant are put in situations where they cannot cope without mutual help. The exercise allows you to understand the other being’s perspective and the benefits of working together.

SENSORY
GARDEN
Recent research shows that skills acquired in rooms deprived of external stimuli are less durable than those acquired in an environment with more distractions. Thus, acquiring skills outdoors, in safe and controlled conditions, gives a much better chance of consolidating them.
